In today’s increasingly perilous, vulnerability-ridden enterprise IT world—with malware and hacking attacks on the rise, SMBs can’t be too careful when it comes to protecting their business data. SMBs face the same online security threats as big businesses, and they need to offer services like remote user access and connections to remote servers that can’t be fully protected by most consumer-level routers.

NETGEAR just introduced the ProSafe® Wireless-N 8-port Gigabit VPN Firewall (FVS318N), an all-in-one router, wireless-N access point, gigabit switch and SSL VPN firewall that sets a new standard for affordability and flexibility in making secure network connections.

Priced under $180, the new FVS318N puts robust security features like SSL VPN, SPI, configurable DMZ, and DoS protection within reach for all businesses of and sizes.

As workers spend more time away from the office, but still need to connect to their company networks, remote access is crucial. The FVS318N is the first in its class to offer two approaches for secure remote access through Virtual Private Networks (VPNs):

·        For SMBs that want to securely connect remote workers without having to purchase and configure VPN software, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) support establishes a VPN by signing in through a browser. Until now, firewalls with this level of sophistication typically cost at least 50 percent more.

·        For SMBs that want to connect multiple offices or use VPN software installed on client devices to connect remote workers, Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) on the FVS318N supports third-party VPN solutions.

Further promoting flexible connectivity options, the FVS318N provides Wireless-N WiFi as well as eight one-gigabit wired Ethernet ports for optimum access in local area networks. Easy to set up and manage, the reliable FVS318N is configured through a simple, browser-based interface, accompanied by helpful wizards for connecting to ISPs and establishing VPNs. The VPN firewall comes in a metal housing, rather than plastic, and is protected by NETGEAR’s lifetime warranty.

“SMBs face the same online security threats as big businesses, and they need to offer services like remote user access and connections to remote servers that can’t be fully protected by consumer-level routers,” said Jeff Wilson, Principal Analyst for Security at Infonetics Research. “Small businesses can now find firewalls with robust security features like SSL VPN, SPI, configurable DMZ, and DoS protection, capabilities which until recently were only available in expensive and complex enterprise-class solutions.”

“The NETGEAR ProSafe Wireless-N VPN Firewall is a surprisingly affordable unit packed with more features than any other router on the market at this level. Despite all the features available to the user, the interface is easy to understand, so as not to be overwhelming for inexperienced users," said Tyler Cain, Head of Information Technology at Cain Sales Company, a supplier of construction materials in Atlanta.

“The FVS318 product family has been an industry leader for the better part of a decade. We’re continuing this tradition of innovation with the FVS318N,” said Jason Leung, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Commercial Security Solutions at NETGEAR. “We’re committed to delivering smart IT, not big IT, with products that are reliable, affordable, and simple. The FVS318N embodies all these qualities by offering a multitude of connectivity options at an incredibly affordable price.”
